What audience would you recommend The Jackal’s Mistress to? Is there another book or author you feel has a similar theme or style?
I would recommend The Jackal’s Mistress to fans of historical fiction, for readers looking for a book with a strong female character, for readers who appreciate an understated, slow burn romantic element, and to readers who appreciate a story told from multiple points of view.
I agree, Karen. Very well said!
I recommend The Jackal’s Mistress to anyone who enjoys historical fiction. There are many other good books that look at some of the same issues, including Master Slave Husband Wife by Ilyon Woo. My book club loved it and we had a great discussion.
I would recommend this book to those who enjoy historical fiction especially with strong female characters who are dealing with complex issues and feelings about right and wrong. Other books suggestions that may be similar would be the House Girl by Tara Conklin and The invention of wings by Sue Monk Kidd
I enjoyed the historical fiction aspect of this book. There are also numerous “what if” sort of topics that book clubs could discuss. I thought the moral dilemma of harboring/caring for the enemy is one for discussion. The concept of having hope in the face of adversity is a hard thing, especially not knowing how the story will end. Libby was a very strong woman. How would someone with a different personality/life experiences fare in this situation? Libby’s family was not traditional and comprised of surprisingly different people that became a strong family unit. I heartily endorse this book for book clubs.
