I’m in the middle of The Dog Stars, which is a dystopian novel. An escape book.**

I’m about halfway through Book of Lives, by Margaret Atwood, and thoroughly enjoying it. I’m not really much of a memoir reader, but this author has long fascinated me, and every time I’ve heard her speak, she’s come across as intelligent, witty, and opinionated; the book doesn’t disappoint. After this one wraps up, I think I’ll likely go with Cursed Daughters by Oyinkan Braithwaite for our book club here.

(And as a reminder, you’re always welcome to comment in a book club discussion, even if you didn’t get the book from BookBrowse. You can find upcoming events here and all our book discussions here.)

In audiobook format, I’ve started The Buffalo Hunter Hunter by Stephen Graham Jones. It’s a horror novel (perfect for Christmas time, LOL). I’ll have to make sure to pull up A Christmas Carol after that one as a palate cleanser, hahaha.

After finishing “Atlas of Untold Stories” by Sara Brunsvold (which had potential but didn’t deliver; the author is from Kansas so I wanted to be supportive), I started “The Heart of Winter” by Jonathan Evison. I suspect I’ll be crying by the end.

I’m reading “I Know How This Ends” by Holly Smale.

Earlier this week I read “Lucky Seed” by Justinian Huang and “The Librarians” by Sherry Thomas.

A fellow Kansan? I’m from the sunflower state as well

I’m just about to finish the audiobook of 1929 by Andrew Ross Sorkin.

I’m reading The Demon of Unrest by Erik Larson. It’s like curling up in a big comfy chair while a friend tells stories.

@kim.kovacs I look forward to your thoughts on Cursed Daughters.

Born & bred & still in the state. When I worked at the public library I tried to highlight Kansan authors. If you can get your hands on the anthology, “Kansas Matters”, I highly recommend it (but I’m a big fan of one of the editors/authors, Tom Averill).

I just started Daughters of the Bamboo Grove by Barbara Demick. It is non-fiction about the previous one child policy in China and the ramifications.

I just finished Wild Dark Shores. It was very good. I read all of Charlotte McConaghy’s books. I started Simon The Fiddler a book I own but then my library request Evil Bones arrived so I will read this next. #24 in Kathy Reichs series. Then on to Fiddler!

Ohh, I love Barbara Demick’s work. You’ll have to let us know what you think of that one, @Gabi_J.

Death of the Pickle King set in Minnesota by a Minnesota author. The pickle factory is in the city that I live in.

I’m reading ‘The Entire Sky’ by Joe Wilkins, recommended by a bookstagrammer friend. And a few days ago I finished ‘Only here, Only now’ by Tom Newlands, an eye opening novel narrated by a young girl who has ADHD and lots of life challenges and isn’t quite sure which way to turn.

After reading the members’ recommendations last week (the reason I enjoy Book Browse), I read The True True Story of Raja the Gullible. I definitely understand why it received The National Book Award for fiction this year. Yes it was an awesome story about the human soul that explores emotional pain. However, it was written in a humorous manner which makes it such an enjoyable read!

I’m so glad you liked Raja, @Lynne_G! It was definitely a favorite - if not the favorite - of the year for me.

I agree. It was your recommendation that made me download on my kindle. I especially enjoyed the part when he was in VA.

Me, too. Way out west close to Dodge City. I always tell people I love seeing the sun come up in the morning and go all the way down in the evening. Only in the wide open spaces can one do that!

I have been in a slump (my first of the year) finishing Combee. I should be done Sunday and start “G-Man.” I haven’t disliked a Pulitzer Winners this mine in a long time.
