What are you reading this week? (8/28/2025)

I want to read that It is calling to me. Enjoy😊

When They Burned the Butterfly by Wen -Yi Lee.I got an arc to read and review for BookBrowse. I am really enjoying it.

Also, I was supposed to get Lolita, to discuss in the BookBrowse Online Book Club. But never received it. So I got it from my library. I will be starting that one today.

@Anthony_Conty Missing Thread has been on my list since it came out. What did you think of it?

As a Latin Teacher, I knew most of the stories but seeing them through the females’ eyes was a whole different story. There was strategy and diplomacy that the textbooks don’t mention. It makes me wish I had majored in Classics in college.

Loved it! Great book

Your post reminded me to see if I could place a hold on Every Living Thing at my library (it was on my radar at some point, but I’d forgotten about it). I was able to snag a copy on Libby and started it yesterday. Glad you mentioned it!
Have you read The Invention of Nature: Alexander von Humboldt’s New World by Andrea Wulf?

Everything We Thought Was True, by Lisa Montanaro. This is our book club selection for September. And Lisa will be Zooming in to our book club meeting!

The Secret History by Donna Tartt

I have not. This is out of my comfort zone but I am quickly becoming obsessed.

I just completed Origin by Dan Brown as I plan to read the new Robert Langdon book when it is published later this month. It was another fun dose of history/travel/intrigue. I have now started No Ordinary Time by Doris Kearns Goodwin, which has been on my TBR list for too long!

I loved There are Rivers in the Sky. Such great storytelling!

Just finished The Exiles by Christina Baker Kline and The Last Assignment by Erika Robuck. Both are really good books and they’re both based on true stories.

I just finished The Borrowed Life of Frederick Fife by Anna Johnston for our book club read this month. A sweet, funny, sad, heart tugging tale about an old chap who by outrageous circumstance and good fortune finds himself in assisted living at the expense of, well, a less fortunate chap.

Also, while waiting for Daniel Kraus’ new release to become available, I’m reading his 2023 novel Whalefall about a young man, with a lot to prove to himself and others, doing a solo and dangerous dive in an attempt to find his father’s remains. Currently, he finds himself in the jaws of a sperm whale!

@Connie_K I’m glad to hear you’re a fan of Daniel Kraus. I really enjoyed Angel Down and I hope you like it! I haven’t read Whalefall but I plan to.

Angel Down is the newest one I was trying to get hold of but I am enjoying Whalefall. Will do Angel Down later.
