What are you reading this week? Please share! We’d love to know.
James, to prepare for our book discussion.
I am enjoying the “Ask an Author” feature on BookBrowse! I wasn’t familiar with Mischa Berlinski and decided to pick up his earlier work - Fieldwork. I also just finished the second book in Alka Joshi’s Jaipur Trilogy - The Secret Keeper of Jaipur.
I’m now reading Man’s Search for Meaning by Viktor Frankl for our local yoga studio book club.
Reading Sandra Brown’s “Ricochet: A Novel”.
By Ariel Lawhon - The Wife, the Maid, and the Mistress. The story is about Judge Crater’s life and disappearance. **
Trick of the Eye by Jane Stanton Hitchcock. Set in high society NY adjacent to the working art world. Great characters! Intriguing plot. Evidently things are not as they seem.
Also, Remember by Lisa Genova An accessible look at the ability for our brains to hold memory.
Listening to The Third Gilmore Girl by Kelly Bishop. A fun, but authentic look at the life of a dancer, singer, actor. A life!
I am literally 4 pages from the end of “Heart Lamp,” the International Booker Prize Winner, and plan to start “The Missing Thread: A Women’s History of the Ancient World” tomorrow.
I’m re-reading The Frozen River (Ariel Lawhon) for the first meeting of a new discussion group I’ve started post-retirement. It’s still as good as the first time I read it (for the BookBrowse discussion!)
Almost finished with All the Colors of the Dark by Chris Whitaker for my upcoming book club meeting. I will be so glad to be done with it. I had a nightmare last night that I am sure it precipitated. Next up is Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck. I read it many years ago, but am rereading for a book discussion at a nearby library. Am listening to the children’s book, Harriet the Spy by Louise Fitzhugh while driving.
I read The Hunter’s Daughter for bookclub, it was excellent. Now reading Normal People also for a bookclub.
Just finished “The Warmth of Other Suns” by Isabel Wilkerson.
I just started Mark Helprin’s “The Ocean and the Stars” published in 2023. Called a sea story, a war story and a love story - it seemed up my alley. I have been curious about Helprin for years but disliked “A Winter’s Tale.” Started it last night and it captured my attention. Does anyone else have opinions about Helprin’s work?
Just finished The Demon of Unrest, by Erik Larson, and I’m also reading Kate Atkinson’s A God in Ruins.
Listening to Mark Twain by Ron Chernow. Excellent. Very long (40 hours) but Twain is fascinating throughout and Chernow is a terrific biographer.
Recently finished When the Cranes Fly South by Lisa Ridzén. Wonderful!!
I finished The Hunter’s Daughter less than 20 minutes ago. Yes, it was a good read that kept my interest. I had theories but will wait for the official discussion to begin. **
I just finished:
When the cranes fly south Lisa Rizden
Theo of Golden Allen Levi
You are here David Nicholls
My Friend Fred Backman
All were fabulous. Now starting There are Rivers in the Sky by Eli Shafak
Looking
forward to the discussion!
I read All The Colors Of The Dark last week. I agree it was very intense and full of many characters with twists of childhood traumas spanning decades and women’s struggles at that time were depressing. I was relieved it did have a peaceful ending.
For a change I read The Secret Book and Scone Society which like many book club books it was a cozy read.
Oh, I loved that, too!
