Oh, I’m envious, @Russ_B. That’s one of those books I wish I could read again for the first time.

After reading The Original by Nell Stevens and loving it, I am just now finishing her memoir (Bleaker House) about becoming a writer while living for a short time on Bleaker Island in the Falklands. It’s a book of self-discovery.

I’m reading A Marriage at Sea by Sophie Elmhirst. Based on a true story, this novel depicts the story of a couple who buy a boat and decide to sail the world! A close encounter with a whale ends their trek but not their lives- how they survive will keep you engaged - can you imagine ]being stranded with your partner for 100+ DAYS in a life raft!! Yikes!.

You know, her journey of discovering herself as a writer, wasn’t written that well. Lost & Found by Kathryn Schulz was a million times better.

I just finished The Möbius Book by Catherine Lacey. I’m a fan of her work, but don’t know if I’d recommend it to anyone else.

I’m about to start A Flower Traveled in My Blood by Haley Cohen Gilliland, about the Abuelas de Plaza de Mayo, grandmothers who fought to find their stolen grandchildren during Argentina’s brutal dictatorship.

Currently reading Death at the Sign of the Rook for the upcoming discussion, and then I’ll move on to Hotshot, a NF book about a female wildfire fighter. Really looking forward to that one!

In audiobook format, I finished Mona Acts Out - A book about an aging Shakespearean actress, and as someone who loves theater I felt quite connected to it. The narrator was exceptional. The book’s author, Mischa Berlinski, will be here in a couple of weeks and I’m looking forward to speaking with him about it. Just started The Saint of the Narrows Street but not far enough along to have an opinion yet.

I started three books that I could not get interested in now, but maybe later. Decided to read The Age of Innocence, as I always seem to get into Edith Wharton’s books :books:. But must admit it also is going a little slow. I will not give up. I have a lot on my mind right now, and also thinking it is the heat. As soon as I finish the Wharton book I will be reading The Swimmers for a bookclub. Also will read Caste The Origins of Our Disccontents for another bookclub.

Great choice. My absolute favorite fiction book of all time.

Just finished Broken Country by Clare Leslie Hall. The writing was good, but I had a problem with the behaviors of two of the three main characters. Was so aggravated with them by the end of the book. Honestly can’t recommend. Also just finished listening to Silas Marner by George Eliot which left me feeling much more positive.

Just started reading Killing the SS, one in the history series churned out by Bill O’Reilly & Martin Dugard, and it is actually keeping my attention. Listening to Candide by Voltaire and am not sure what to think of it.

This book combined my love of literature, history, and music: Every Valley: The Desperate Lives and Troubled Times That Made Handel’s Messiah by Charles King. I have enjoyed many books about the great pieces of music and art in nonfiction and historical fiction. Find that these types of books about our cultural past are a sure cure for reading slumps.

Loved that book years ago and loved it–except for snakes.

That was a reply to Lonesome Dove person.

I’ve just started “Kindred”-- not my usual genre, although I have enjoyed a few time-travel novels along the way. I have just finished “All the Colors of the Dark,” which I loved. Those two are exceptional just for the covers! Next up “Death at the Sign of the Rook.” Can’t wait for my next Book Club session to begin!

I just finished The Offing by Benjamin Myers last night. It was a recommendation from Book Browser members Evonne_Benedict and Lynne G. and it is as wonderful as they said. An unlikely friendship between two characters, filled with warmth, kindness and healing. Plus, the writing is beautiful and to be savored!

I hope you like it, @Carol_B! I love Butler’s work.

Vicki,
I am pleased you enjoyed The Offing.
The story touched my heart.
