What book or books are you reading this week? Please share! We’d love to know.
I’m enjoying Scott Turow’s 2025 book Presumed Guilty. I think he writes lawyer procedurals that balance lawyerly knowledge with plot.
Just finished The Lilac People by Milo Todd. A great read that took me on an emotional journey.
I should wrap up The Busybody Book Club today, and then it’s on to my review book, My Friends (the one by Fredrik Backman, author of A Man Called Ove, not the one by Hisham Matar). After that it’ll probably be The Ghostwriter.
In audiobook format, I’m finishing up James (and totally loving it). Next up will be Stephanie Dray’s first book, Lily of the Nile. (She’ll be joining us next month so I’d like to read as many of her books as possible before then.)
The Girls of Good Fortune. I’m about halfway through and want to finish before I join the discussion. It’s very interesting.
I am glad you are enjoying James but I would argue that its last 20 pages are its best.
I am reading “The Postcard” by Anne Berest. It sat on my nightstand for a year and I am glad that I finally picked it up.
Next week, I hope to start “Properties of Thirst” by Marianne Wiggins.
I have just finished THIS STRANGE EVENTFUL HISTORY by Claire Messud. I have a deep interest in Algeria and the Algerian War. This is a fascinating take both personally and historically. It is a beautifully written story with characters that take up space in your memory. And you want them there. The feelings of the characters and the readers are profound-amnd universal.
I’m reading an ARC of The South by Tash Aw. It’s great!
Just finished The Ghostwriter, my first review read. It was very good!
Thank you for the recommendation. The book sounds marvelous so I just checked it out.
Finishing up The House of Spirits as well as The Amalfi Curse. Allende’s book is beautifully and descriptively written, while Penner’s book is a quick and entertaining read. Two very different books.
The Busybody Book Club was a sweet read - I LOVE all of her books.
I keep hearing so much about James - in fact a friend was telling me about how much she liked it.
Congrats on your first review read!!
I enjoyed Ghostwriter too - a bit slow at first, but turned out good.
I didn’t really want to try The Amalfi Curse because her last book was not a favorite. Loved The Lost Apothecary.
I still may give The Amalfi Curse a try.
I finished Don’t Open Your Eyes by Liv Constantine - a slow start, but turns out ok.
Currently reading a sweet read set in a Southern town - The Summer of Starting Over by Savannah Carlisle.
I agree that it was slow to start, by the end, I couldn’t put it down!
I have no idea why I chose The Amalfi Curse, especially since I almost didn’t finish The Lost Apothecary. I did enjoy the new one. It was an easy read - good, not great. While it was a dual time line, one story was so much more developed than the other.
Thanks, Gabi!!
I’m glad I didn’t read it now.
Thanks for your comment, Sheri.
