I don’t often read two books at the same time; however, I’m reading Real Americans and just downloaded *Swamplandia by Karen Russell.

I just started the “Icon and Idealist” by Stephanie Gorton. Also, enjoying “Starter Villain” by John Scalzi. “Care and Feeding” by Laurie Woolever was a DNF.

Oh, I love John Scalzi. He’s got some very entertaining books out there. Let me know what you think of Starter Villain. It’s on my short list of books to pick up.

I just finished Maame by Jessica George for an online book club. Loved the main character and her story!

Currently reading The Frozen River by Ariel Lawhon with my book club; really enjoying it. Just finished Women Talking by Miriam Toews for a book discussion at a nearby library; still trying to process what I thought of it. Just started listening to The Plague by Albert Camus…

Kim, I just finished Starter Villain. It definitely wasn’t a profound book but what it lacked in depth was made up in quirky characters and some creative one-liners. I haven’t laughed that much along with a book in a long time. Twists and silliness were just what I needed. Prior to this I had only read Scalzi’s short story The President’s Brain is Missing so I don’t have a fair comparison of how Starter Villain stacks up to his other work. Kirkus says “it is fluffier” but I was entertained.

Btw, I started watching Slow Horses after you mentioned the book series. Haven’t read the books but am REALLY enjoying the TV series. Gary Oldman is amazing (if not, disgusting in his role😆).

@Judy_R I really enjoyed The Night Circus. You’ll have to let us know what you think of it when you’re done.

@Gabi_J Scalzi has a number of really entertaining series, especially if you like scifi. The first books of the Old Man’s War series, the Dispatcher series, the two Locked In books, and the Interdependency Trilogy were all pretty fun. My personal favorite, though, is Redshirts, a Star Trek satire. It won a Hugo Award so I guess I’m not the only one who enjoyed it. He’s got a new one coming out (Tuesday!) called When the Moon Hits Your Eye. It’s scheduled for our April 9 ezine and I’m quite curious about what our reviewer, Joe Hoeffner, will think of it.

Thank you! I pre-ordered Scalzi’s new one last week. Will definitely check out Redshirts and the Old Man War series. I have been on a sci-fi kick recently. Really enjoying the genre, particularly the books that have some humor and are more positive in nature. A lot of fun ones out there I’m finding.

I was just going to say something similar…I’ve typically been a ‘monogamous’ reader, but not these days! I like to have more than one going so I can pick up the one that suits my mood.

I’m reading The Devil Finds Work by James Baldwin, and Too Old For This by Samantha Downing. Both are from BookBrowse! I’m also listening to A slow Fire Burning by Paula Hawkins, brilliantly narrated by Rosamund Pike.

@Jennie_Reece I’ve never figured out the art of reading more than one book at once. I end up only reading the one I’m enjoying more & totally abandoning the other one.

I’m reading The River Knows Your Name and I’m really enjoying it, so far. I’m listening to, Like Mother, Like Mother, and not sure about this one yet.
