What book or books are you reading this week? Please share! We’d love to know.
I finished Nesting over the weekend. It’s about a woman who decides to leave an emotionally abusive relationship. She’s suddenly had enough. Grabs her two toddlers & whatever she can carry & just leaves while the guy’s at work. There were the expected scenes of confrontation with the husband, but what was really a surprise was the author’s depiction of this woman’s every day life as she navigates the system designed to keep her safe. It was more stressful to read about than the parts of the book with her spouse.
I’m almost done with The Husbands and then it’s on to The River Knows Your Name.
In audiobook, I’m still slogging through some mindless drivel my husband wants me to listen to. It’s taking entirely too long because I’m not really motivated to pick it back up. You know how you actually get more exercise in when there’s a book you’re dying to continue? Yeah… this book isn’t that.
I’m currently reading Last Twilight in Paris by Pam Jenoff. Next up is The River Knows Your Name. In audiobook I’m listening to Agatha Christie’s Towards Zero. I’m not an audiobook reader so I’ll probably end up switching to paper soon!
I read Nesting a few weeks ago. I really enjoyed the writing.
I am currently reading Wild Dark Shore by Charlotte McConaghy. Really good so far. I have not read any other her other books.
I hope to have “The Lion Women of Tehran” finished and start “The Mighty Red.”
I am reading One Two Three by Laurie Frankel. It is very Erin Brockovich. It is about the town of Bourne that has been polluted by a chemical plant. Everyone is affected. The main characters are triplets who are each affected differently by the pollution. The relatives of the plant owners want to restart the plant. The focus is on the reactions of town people vs the plant family.
I am about half way through “The Bones Beneath My Skin” by TJ Klune.
I am reading Nothing to Envy: Ordinary Lives in North Korea by Barbara Demick. It is a real look into the lives of ordinary North Koreans.
I am reading Punished by Ann-Helen Laestadius but also need to start reading Real Americans for book club.
I just today finished Sirens & Muses by Antonia Angress.
And now I’m digging into Good Dirt by Charmaine Wilkerson.
I’ve loved her other books. Will you review this for BookBrowse?
Just finished and wow.
I’ve read ‘Three Wild Dogs and the Truth’ by Markus Zusak, and ‘Wild Dark Shore’ by Charlotte McConaghy. Very different reading experiences, both the books are very good!
@Susan_Nora I thought Nothing to Envy was eye-opening. I loved it, and think about it often.
I haven’t read Nothing to Envy but it is on my Kindle shelf to be read. I did read Demick’s Eat the Buddha. It was a very enlightening read about Tibet. I like her writing and have already pre-ordered her May release Daughters of the Bamboo Grove.
I just finished The Story She Left Behind by Patti Callahan Henry, which I loved! And also, A Map to Paradise by Susan Meissner. I am currently reading The Fisherman’s Gift by Julia R. Kelly.
I just finished Hester by Laurie Lico Albanese. It was a fictional account of the woman who inspired Nathaniel Hawthorne to write The Scarlet Letter. Let me just say, it did not paint him in a very good light.
I am about a third of the way through At the Quiet Edge by Victoria Helen Stone, a mystery.
Also, about to start Olive, Again by Elizabeth Strout and The Music of Bees by Eileen Garvin. I absolutely loved Garvin’s book, Crow Talk.
I am reading A Master of Djinn. A fantasy novel set in Cairo. Very well done
Just finished reading How to Age Dis-Gracefully by Clare Pooley. It was hilarious but still a worthy drama of secrets, friendships, and aging implications. If you need a break from a heavy read (previously read The Women) and are over 50, closer to 70, you should enjoy it. Will start Sky Full of Elephants by Cebo Campbell tomorrow.
