Lincoln in the Bardo is on my list of all-time favorite books. It’s one of the few that changed my view of life for weeks. I was happier, more appreciative of all the wonderful things in my life that I take for granted… After reading it I ended up making a daily list of the little things that made me happy - things I’d miss if I couldn’t enjoy them anymore (a cold pint of IPA, my cat’s purr, my husband’s smile, etc.). I revisited that list over and over again for quite a while, smiling each time.
Not to mention it’s simply a wonderfully written book. It’s so different! I was a bit intimidated by its format at first but ended up really enjoying it.
Has anyone read any of Saunders’ other works? Are they similarly uplifting?
I just finished Dead Money which is being released in January, I thought it was a good thriller and I could easily see it being made into a movie at some point. There were some nice twists with enough breadcrumbs that they didn’t come out of left field. I also enjoyed the jabs it made at the tech industry in general.
I’m about 2/3 through The Council of Dolls by Mona Susan Power. I also heard the author speak about the book in a webinar last week. She is a very engaging speaker. Her insights helped me to appreciate the book even more.
