Both the book and movie are so good.
No, I haven’t read the Everyone Has… series. I’ll have to put that next on my list. (…After Slow Horses, after Thursday Murder Club…LOL. Too many books, too little time!).
I have just “read” the graphic novel of The Road. I got a lot out of the original novel and it brought it all back. Things actually COULD be worse. Somehow “comforting!”,
I am reading The Phoenix Crown by Kate Quinn and Janie Chang. My book club will be discussing it tomorrow. Also, I finished The Midwife of Auschwitz by Anna Stuart on my Kindle and am reading The Midwife of Berlin by Anna Stuart. It’s book two of a series. They are absorbing and sad.
I am reading Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein for the first time! I am reading both the print book and listening to the audiobook. I decided to do a reading project for November, so I am reading Frankenstein and other books related to it.
Once you finish, you should check out the National Theatre Live production of Frankenstein starring Jonny Lee Miller and Benedict Cumberbatch. They did two versions, one with Miller as the Creature and Cumberbatch as Frankenstein, and then another version where the two switched roles. I personally liked Miller more as the Creature, but both versions are some of the finest theater I’ve ever seen.
I did not know that they did a graphic novel of The Road. While I’m not really into graphic novels, that sounds really interesting. The Road is one of my all-time favorite books.
Just finished Becoming Earth by Ferris Jabr. Astounded to find how every thing on and in earth is connected not just as ecological Gaia but that first “life” is actually first “rocks” making life as respiration. And the air is full of microbes we take in with each breath. Each organism is a network of animate and inanimate parts. And all networks are connected to parts of other networks on Earth. It helps to listen to all the interviews of Ferris Jabr online to understand the inclusiveness of these concepts.
That sounds wonderful. Thank you for the recommendation!
I finished Fourth Wing yesterday and started The Bog Wife today. James has been a favorite this month. So many titles, so little time, but like most readers, we’re never without a book.
I’m about half way through THE HEAVEN AND EARTH GROCERY STORE and really enjoying it.
I have a suggestion for those responding to a previous post. Please give the title of the book in your reply. Your post may show up several posts later and we don’t know what book it is you like or dislike.
Hi Becky, good idea on referencing the book titles, as an FYI each post that’s a reply to another post is linked to the original post. It’s easier to see on desktop but if you’re on your phone, each reply will have the original poster’s photo in the top right of the post.
Tapping that will show you the original post! For example as I’ve replied to you, your profile photo is on the top right of this post.
We also re-post this topic each week because we know longer topics can be a little more unweildy.
I just finished The Many Mothers of Ivy Puddingstone by Randy Susan Meyers. An intriguing read about growing up in a commune type setting in Boston in the 60s and 70s. I lived in Cambridge at that time so it resonated with me. Why do we look for new ways to lead adult lives and what is the impact on our children. Insightful about parent/child relationships.
