Were you surprised to learn about Charlotte Osgood Mason? What do you think of the role that white women like Charlotte played in the success of authors like Langston Hughes? Do you think they accomplished more good than harm or more harm than good?
Yes…I was surprised by her. I wanted to like her because she did do a lot of good for some but I feel like she treated her projects like you would a beloved pet. Ultimately she wanted to hold them down so they would be what she believed them to be….she wanted to determine the direction of their writing. Her support came with a cost.

Yes, I agree with Rose_S. I think Charlotte meant well but there is that aftertaste of White superiority.
I had not, however, ever heard of an “integrationist”.
Well addressed Rosa, Charlotte needed to be in control even when supporting Black authors.
