I love excellent and interesting prose. I was hooked from the very first paragraph, and stayed that way through the entire book.

“The world is a mess….But killing a bunch of people? What’s that going to fix?” The reason that this quote resonated with me is the political climate that exists today. The USA doesn’t seem to have a conscience when killing happens both here and abroad.

I highlighted so so many throughout the book. I really liked this one, on page 305 “You can’t run away from your problems, from real life. Life is about staying. Putting in the work. Even when it’s hard.”

People are so quick to give up not only on marriage, but on all types of relationships, projects, jobs, even hobbies, because the going gets tough, instead of perservering through it, working hard at it, trying different things, asking for help when warranted. They often forget the bigger picture which is “Never let the things you want make you forget the things you have”, page 17.

Like Jane and Dan, my husband and I celebrated our 19th anniversary this past September. Has it always been easy? Absolutely no! I’m sure he contemplated my murder many a times just as I’ve contemplated his lol. But we’ve always pushed through it, compromised, found a way through it and got out of it better and stronger and more in love with each other every time. Sometimes we need to stop and go back and remind ourselves (and each other) why we fell in love in the first time and cherrish that.

My absolute favorite scene was Jane trying to text for help in a dangerous and desperate situation and still re-reading and re-thinking and revising her message. I could see my perfectionist self doing the same thing.

Marijana_Bankovic, A really great quote. I noted it also, as I do believe that things can be hard (work, family relationships, personal relations…just life) but if you stay with it, so often things get better or you see a different approach that will make all the difference. I do understand that there can be things that one needs to walk away from (especially if it is hurting one physically or mentally) but most of the time, if you stay at something and keep an open heart it will change for the better.

Loved your post. I agree the page 305 quote is great.

Congratulations on 19 years of marriage. It seems incomprehensible to me!
