If the surprise is why they were all there I was very shocked and for a bit I was thinking I no longer even liked the book. But I did read to the end.

The surprise midway through the book absolutely ruined the book for me. I thought it was a writer’s “Hail Mary”” pass…. some made up stuff to create enough text to finish the book. I read the whole book because I agreed to for this book club.

I’m glad I wasn’t the only one who didn’t like this. I thought immediately of the movies, The Others and The Sixth Sense. I loved those movies; however, I didn’t think it fit well in this book.

I’m so interested by other’s responses! I suspected something was up, but I thought Joe was dead. I actually liked the twist as it explained a number of things that had been bothering me. I was actually surprised by how much it made sense to me

I guess I’ve touched upon my response to the surprise. I’m still deciding!! Lol

I felt like it made sense but I wasn’t happy with it. I had been thinking something was up, like what is bringing these four people together besides losing a family member?? My thought was that they were all in coma or hanging onto life by a thread. That’s how I wish the story went. I was so sad they were all already dead, I wanted them to live! Especially Callum and Mischa!

My reaction to the revelation in the middle of the book changed my entire thoughts about the book. Up to that point I thought the book was moving slowly without any real purpose. But once the reason they were together was revealed everything took on new meaning for me and I thoroughly enjoyed the last half of the book.

I was surprised when the twist came but I was not shocked. I had suspicions that something was up. There was too much coincidence for there not to be some sort of twist. I liked the direction the story took at this point.

I suspecting something similar was going to happen, but I was still shocked! It definitely kept me invested in finishing the book.

I suspected early on , but the writer did a great job changing my mind. Then wham…more of the story line started to make more sense. I think it actually made the story more “believable”!

I really like a book that has a twist or a shocking reveal as part of the story and this one definitely delivered! In the back of my mind, I kept wondering what it was that brought them all together, but I didn’t see that one coming!

I did not see the twist coming. It took me by surprise, and I admit I had to stop reading for a few moments to reflect on it. Genevieve asking them to describe themselves “before” the incident and “after” made more sense. More surprises came along as we learned more details about each of their ‘incidents.’

I was not prepared for the twist and at first did’t realize how that changed everything.

Others’ positive reactions to this are definitely interesting to me. I suppose there’s an audience for every book. I, however, do not think I was that audience. Much of the book felt cliche, and especially the overused “and they were dead all along!” trope. After that, it was indeed a cascade of “well this probably won’t work, but what if we try?” over and over.

I am glad that I had no warning about the twist in this novel. It took me a moment to readjust my thinking, but I found it clever and somehow believable.

Totally surprised - it was a great twist and unlike others I really enjoyed it.

It was a shock and soooo good! I loved it and the ending. If this had just been a typical book about people in a grief group, I think it would have been boring!

I liked the surprise. It totally took me by surprise and gave me a new perspective on each of their stories.

Well said Catherine. I glad another felt the same.
