Hi folks - How’s everyone doing so far? The original schedule called for a break after the first book/part/what-have-you. I can post another section, if those of you who are reading want to plow ahead, or we can just do as planned & take some time off.
I’m finishing an audiobook, and then I’m planning to jump into W&P. Hopefully with listening to the audio non-stop I’ll be able to catch up with y’all.
And it sounds like you’re finding it both readable and enjoyable, which is great!
If you’re wanting opinions, I’m for a week catch up period, but don’t have a problem plowing ahead if that’s what the majority want.
I’m flexible but I’ll probably keep reading at a much slower pace for the week. The next section is also quite short. Happy to allow for catch-up time and have you rowing with us @kim.kovacs.
I am flexible also. However if the other members need a week to catch up I totally understand.
We’re with family this week so I imagine I’ll be reading a bit less. I’m happy with the catch-up week so I have more time to hang-out with the tweens before they decide the oldsters are boring .

I, for one, like the catch-up week between jet lag and the World Cup my reading has slowed down.
@Gabi_J, do you have any idea how many hours into the audio you are? I just started it today and you’re right about the narrator. Really enjoying her.
@kim.kovacs I am about 17 hours into the audiobook and probably have around an hour more until I finish the third week’s reading. Glad you are enjoying this version of audio!
I’m curious about the nuance of translations. In mine (Briggs) Denisov has a speech impediment that affects the way he pronounces R. Do all the various translations have that same characteristic?
Here’s an example from mine: Hey, Gwishka bwing me a pipe! Wostov, time to get up!
I’m not quite sure if this is being used to make him seem simple, comedic, or something else. Right now my take is that he’s a sweet guy but I can’t quite tell how the author is using his disability.
In mine (Maude, audiobook and ebook) Denisov also has a speech impediment. Not sure the point at this time.
I support a catch-up week. Need time to digest everything I have read so far.
