I agree Karen! I was researching things to see and do for my Fall trip to the Berkshires and came across this picture. I’ve seen plenty of pictures of W.E.B. DuBois, but never of his wife Nina and daughter Yolande. Having just read the book I felt like I knew them!

I had also googled him as in the book it mentioned more than once how handsome he was. He certainly was and his wife beautiful. Thank you for this great picture. A beautiful family.
I can see DuBois’ charisma & can understand why women were attracted to him but–I may be projecting here–I can also see pain in Nina’s face. And she is beautiful. Despite his intelligence and talent, WEB was something of a fool.
Carol, I agree with you on how beautiful Nina appears. He’s not looking at the camera and baby Yolande doesn’t look happy. Seems like a forced family portrait. But maybe I’m projecting too🤔
I agree with you. Additionally, I knew the very basic information regarding WEB Du Bois. I never knew about his affairs nor who Jessie was.
