Tyler Wilson is in mourning over the loss of his son, Chris, and blames himself for the car accident that caused the child’s death – he’d lost his job and couldn’t afford to get the car fixed and its brakes failed. His friend Ray tells him it’s The New World Order that’s to blame, because in sending jobs to China they left people with “no jobs, no house, no savings.” (p. 297). The pair end up in New York City taking hostages and making unreasonable demands. Why do you suppose Tyler went along with Ray’s scheme? Did you foresee the outcome, and what did you think of the book’s ending?
While I get Ray’s point, I maintain Tyler could have found a way to get the brakes fixed by either negotiating with a reputative repair shop or telling his wife DON"T USE MY CAR! I think Tyler bears as much blame as the world order that Ray thinks is the answer to every ill. I think Tyler went with Ray because he was grieving and felt he needed to do something to show it anger over what happened - plus I thought Tyler was just naive and believed that angry idiot Ray, I didn’t see that ending though, It showed that Tyler was basically a good but misguided guy. I felt for his loss.

Tyler’s behavior was confusing. He seemed to follow Ray like a lap dog. Tyler had the money, but Ray used him. Couldn’t Tyler see this? He did come to his senses in the end.
The outcome of this scenario was predictable to me. It was right out of the movies. The weak character who goes along with the strong and then is sorry. This storyline disappointed me. I would have like it if Ray went alone.

Tyler was in mourning, valued Ray’s war experience and his smarts, and wanted to do something good with his money. He thought it would avenge his son’s death and get his wife back. Desperate people can be easily influenced. I ddi not foresee the outcome and the ending was sad and unsatisfying.
Tyler was grief-stricken, mourning the death of his son and departure of his wife. He was also gullible and considered Ray a friend. The combination of these factors caused him to go along with Ray’s scheme, although he soon began to have doubts about Ray’s plan. As the scene in New York began to unfold, I did feel that the end was easily predictable.
Tyler did not know what he was doing. Ray was his friend. His son was dead, his wife just left him. Ray had a plan and he decided to join him. I did not see the outcome, very sad.
Tyler was overwhelmed with his many losses which some were out of his control, such as losing his job and house. Losing his son was tragic. And his wife was disgusted with him and blamed him for their failures. She was not supportive spouse and abandoned Tyler. Her anger towards hm and leaving him, left Tyler vulnerable to any scheme. Ray was a bad influence and used Tyler for his own agenda. Tyler was oblivious to actually what was Ray’s intentions for the trip to New York and actions at the conference. Tyler should have been more skeptical when Ray wanted to take guns and fired at a security guard. It was an unfortunate ending.
I think Tyler was still grieving and not thinking clearly because of all he had lost. Tyler and Ray bonded over the same experience, losing their jobs. So Tyler went along with Ray’s scheme because of this. The outcome was believable because Ray didn’t have a well thought out plan. I wasn’t surprised by the ending.
