To what audience would you recommend The River Knows Your Name? Is there another book or author you feel has a similar theme or style?
I would recommend this book to everyone who enjoys a good book. I think this book was amazing. I love all the women and what they did for the children. Lottie’s story was great especially about her true love and what she sacrificed for her good friend who had betrayed her. And Hazel everything she gave up she could have been a star. Women wow!!!
I’d recommend this book to women and anyone who enjoys historical fiction. The authors portrayal of the difficulties of life during the Depression, particularly for women are excellent. She shines a light on the painful choices women had to make to take care of their families. For those younger readers who did not hear stories of the Great Depression when growing up this book will be eye opening.
I would recommend this to a bookclub but would be hesitant if anyone had lost their husband recently - the book covers so many discussable topics but Becca’s loss of her husband Ben is the undercurrent from start to finish.
I would recommend it to readers who like historical fiction with interesting and varied female characters. It would be a good discussion book, especially for those who are interested in the challenges that women faced in earlier times.
Kelly Mustain weaves her two timelines seamlessly. Fans of historical fiction will enjoy it. It covers many themes and strong women.
I think this is a good book for a book club. There is a lot to discuss, and most people will learn something about the depression time period. Also, for those that do read historical fiction, it is nice to get a break from WWII stories.
I would recommend the book to anyone who likes a story with a few twists and turns. Also, for anyone who likes a good book about family relationships, broken and otherwise.
I think this book would promote lively discussion for any reading group. I will certainly recommend it to my Book Club. We like books where “good” people face obstacles and overcome circumstances that are traumatic. We like books where forgiveness is possible. Kelly Mustian’s book The Girls in the Stilt House had somewhat of a similar theme - going back to “home”, protection of family.
I would definitely recommend this book to my book clubs. It is such a great story and has many areas to encourage lively discussions. I would also recommend this book to readers who enjoy historical fiction.
My book club would love this book. They enjoy books that have many topics for discussion. This one would lend itself to topics of Depression and Effects on People, Acceptance of People Who Are Different, Love, Family Relationships to name a few.
I think any adult would enjoy this book.a book club could have a lot of discussion about it.
This is definitely a “woman’s” book. I’m not sure many men would be very interested in the struggles women had in the 1930’s. I learned quite a bit while reading this book and I think it would lend itself to a lot of interesting discussions in a book club.
I would recommend The River Knows Your Name to readers who enjoy stories about family relationships and found family, also those who enjoy historical fiction. I agree with the others who mention that this would make a great book club read - so much to discuss here!
