To what audience would you recommend The Magician of Tiger Castle? Is there another book or author you feel has a similar theme or style?
The sense of humor from the Wayside School series is seen in this book. But there is a difference in that some of the humor in Wayside is from the absurd and certainly the viewpoint of children who are missing key facts.
This is the first book Iāve read by Sachar. Given he is an excellent writer of young childrenās books, I can see how gifted he is in creating the world of Tiger Castle. I think young adult readers will enjoy it.
A fun fantasy book that the people who like fantasy will enjoy!
Probably an older audience since young adults wouldnāt have the understanding of the importance of scientific discoveries such as those associated with Ponce de Leon and others. Also, Anatoleās usage of herbs for successful treatment of remedies would probably be found to be confusing to the younger set.
I would say this book is for Young Adult and Fantasy.

I think it works well for a wide audience. There are the discussions about science that will appeal to an older audience, but the underlying stoy, even without a large uderstanding of the āscienceā will still appeal to a younger audience as well. I think youg adults are probably best suited for the book.
I think this book will appeal to a very wide audience from middle school age through young adult and adults. This is more a fairy tale than a fantasy book to me. I think many readers will enjoy this tale.
I agree with Dee, it does remind me of The Princess Bride, a favorite of mine!
I agree with other reviewers, I, also compared it to the Princess Bride. I would recommend it to other readers who were into fantasy or better yet adult fairy tales. As a former media specialist in an elementary school, I feel the writer needs to continue with his books for younger children. I was not that impressed with his venture into adult books.
This is my first book by this author. I enjoyed it immensely. I think itās perfect YA and adult readers.
Anyone who enjoyes historical fiction with fantasy/magical realism would enjoy this book. It reminds me of āThe spellshopā by Sarah Beth Durst, and āThe once and future Queenā by Paula Lafferty, as well as āLady Tremaineā by Rachel Chochhauser. And all three are equally is good!
