To what audience would you recommend A Crown of Stars? Is there another book or author you feel has a similar theme or style?
I would recommend this novel to anyone who enjoys a good story, but especially to lovers of historical fiction.
I would recommend it to readers of historical fiction especially because it covers a period of history often not covered in historical novels and I also feel it would be a great book for book groups.
I would recommend this to those that love historical fiction. Other authors with similar styles would be Fiona Davis and Marie Benedict.
I would recommend it to readers who love historical fiction. If they have enjoyed Marie Benedict’s books or Patti Callahan’s books, then they would probably enjoy this one. In Patti Callahan’s Surviving Savannah, a steam ship full of passengers explodes. It is also historical fiction.
I would also recommend to readers who enjoy stories about sisters. Rita and Inez were so different from each other, but the love and loyalty they shared was never in doubt.
I would recommend this to anyone who loves historical fiction or family dramas.
Anyone who reads this would probably love the book “On a Cold Dark Sea” by Elizabeth Blackwell, “Ship of Dreams” by Donna Jones Alward, “The Titanic Sisters” by Patricia Falvey or “The Glass Ocean” by Beatriz Williams,Lauren Willig, Karen White.
Great books about women either on the Titanic or the Lusitania!
I would recommend this book to historical fiction readers, of course. But I think another, certainly smaller audience, might be those interested in going into the performing arts as a profession. For both sisters this is a big step, but their talent leads them forward as well as their “stage” mother who is able to make connections which level the path. I imagine that choosing a life in theater or music performance requires a certain type of courage which not everyone can summon.
Crown reminds me of two Eric Larson books: Isaac’s Storm about the Galveston hurricane and Dead Wake, another Lusitania book. Both are excellent real stories about people surviving tragedies.
Teresa_L thanks for all the great recs!
The obvious answer is this would be for fans of historical fiction. But I also think any book group interested in the entertainment field or stories centered on women, would enjoy this book.
I would recommend this to people who love historical fiction, or to people who love British type stories.
I would recommend A Crown of Stars to those who love history and historical fiction. A great book to feature in a book club. To women transcending societal barriers in any era, very inspirational.
I totally agree! I found the depiction of the entertainment industry in the early 1900s to be really interesting!
Yes, I think the “behind the scenes” at that time of contract Hollywood is interesting. Stars were promoted but totally controlled. Charles is always in charge of Rita’s career. Thankfully, he seems to be benevolent, caring, and looking at her best interests. I don’t think that was always the case. I think of Judy Garland being caught up in the power struggle.
I think the audience for this book is primarily female and, more specifically, fans of historical fiction. Her writing style is reminiscent of that of Patti Callahan Henry, Susan Meissner, Marie Benedict, Karen White, and Fiona Davis.
