Thirza attempts to cope with her grief and confusion by immersing herself in painting. How does this artistic outlet serve as both a means of escape and a path to self-discovery?
Did it?? Her creative self seemed to fare better when she decided to open a hotel. The preparations helped center her.
I have to agree with Nan. Her goal was to keep the Merchant House
I felt the painting was simply a way to pay the bills. I really didn’t get the feeling that it fulfilled her or that she was totally immersed in it. I agree that I saw real passion when she was renewing the house and running it a a retreat.
It is so easy to become trapped in our own heads. Escape is not necessarily a bad thing. Activities such as painting force us to focus on something else. It can be an accelerated road to processing.
I agree with Marcia, it just seemed a way to pay the bills. She used her creativity better as a interior decorator!
I agree that it was a way to pay the bills and an excuse to return to Merchant House. She was far more fulfilled by her efforts to restore the house.
