The Prison escape

Did anyone else think that the prison escape came off to easily? For example, unless I am missing something, when James left in the borrowed clothes, the guards didn’t seem to look up if someone entered with that description.

Yes, Jamie, I, too, thought James’ escape was too smooth. He apparently walked out with no one checking his identity even though he did have the “stamp” on his hand. We don’t know why the author decided to eliminate barriers or questioning. Perhaps Smoot wanted us to believe that Allison’s plan was flawless.

I completely agree. I would think basic security in a prison would be a sign in/sign out system that involved tracking the people who entered and when they left. Artistic license I guess?

I agree. I wonder if there were more details about the escape, but the author did not include them to “protect” the security and keep the inside knowledge about the prison. I was expecting a comment about this at the end of the book.

The prison escape was too easy, but I was rooting for it to happen.

In my experience people visiting are checked going in, but usually they come out in a group at the end of visiting hours and there is no additional check - so a person walking out is of no importance. If you can pull it off to look like others - the general populace or an attorney - then leaving should be pretty easy. Your only worry would be running into a guard that knew you and could identify you. Guards probably could not pick out a dozen people who were visiting in any one day. Unless you do something or wear something that makes you stand out - no other notice is taken. Who would believe a prisoner would get other clothes and simply walk out the front door? None of the guards would believe that.

I certainly did. It left me wondering, how long will he be free? I made that commitment in this discussion hoping to see if others had that same feeling at the book’s end
