The novel ends with some explosive consequences and twists. Were you surprised by the revelations at the end? Did you see any of them coming? If so, when?
I was surprised. I would never have guessed who had killed Jimmy! However I did think that Bobby was Gabriel’s son.
Yes I was surprised at the ending. I had guessed there was the possibility that Bobby was Gabriel’s son, especially with the references to how much Leo reminded her of Bobby. I was completely fooled by the 3 way agreement between Gabriel, Beth and Frank to protect Leo. And I was surprised that Frank was willing to take the fall for Leo, although that was in keeping with his personality. I was most unconvinced about Frank having the guanine his hand and pointed at Jimmy when it went off. He was much more savvy about guns to have let that happen.
I was surprised to find out who really pulled the trigger. I thought perhaps it would end up being Nina somehow, stepping in to try to resolve the situation.
I was surprised that after everything, she chose to stay with Frank and they managed to move forward together.
I was surprised by the identity of the actual shooter. I was surprised by the ‘honorable’ actions by Frank. But, I didn’t really like the conclusion and thought Frank was a doormat.
I, too, was surprised by the identity of the murderer; although, it does seem in character that all three adults would protect Leo.
After the fact, I should have realized that Bobby was Gabriel’s son; I don’t know why this didn’t occur to me, but it didn’t! I had no idea who the shooter was or who was on trial, so I was definitely surprised.
I was definitely surprised who the actual murder was. I also was caught off guard about who Bobby’s father was. That Beth and Frank remained married was also a surprise.
I remember my stomach dropping at the moment that I figured out one of the biggest revelations. It took my breath away. It’s a beautiful story that keeps you guessing.
I was surprised! It was a page turner.
The final episode between the families was totally unexpected to me, which I love in a novel . I thought the conclusion was consoling
Of course everyone is surprised, 5 minutes earlier the scene had the child shaking in fear under a table literally pissing himself. How would anyone think it was in any manner his character to pick up a very large heavy shotgun and heft it into another room and aim it properly.
Surprised? Yes. Let down? Also, yes.
I did not see any of the twists. I thought maybe Nina might have accidentally killed Jimmy. I was most surprised with Frank. As I have expressed in other questions, he seemed to good. I now understand why he felt he needed to protect Leo. What I still find interesting is the fact he knows Beth is carrying his child, but prefers not to see either of them until he is released some 8 years later. Can anyone give me some good reasons for his actions???
I felt that Frank was involved in the murder but I didn’t know how and I didn’t imagine the real shooter until I read it. It was unraveled very well.
I was completely surprised by all aspects of the ending - the real murderer, the real father of Bobby, the overall outcome and I cried reading the last few pages.
I was surprised - how could I have not expected that Bobby was Gabriel’s son?! In retrospect I think I missed this but given Frank’s devotion and caring for Bobby I think I was set up.. I admit that when I first read this “revelation” my reaction was “really?! this is too much soap opera and not needed!”
At times, I questioned as I was reading, what the conclusions might be. I definitely was surprised by some of the revelations.
