The Correspondent

I know a lot of people here have read The Correspondent by Virginia Evans and loved it. I’m curious: Do you think being a parent makes the book more impactful? Why did this one resonate so much with you? I know some folks are saying it’s among their best books of the year, but why? (Not that I’m disagreeing or challenging anyone - I thought it was great - but I’m just trying to hone in on what specifically people enjoyed about the novel.)

Who is the author? There are a bunch of books with this title.

@Roberta_Winchester Sorry about that - it’s Virginia Evans.

I was surprised at just how good this book is at telling so many stories through letters. I wrote letters for many years t my mother and a few others. I have my father’s letters from WWII, my husbands from Vietnam and many others. Letters are truly a history of a time at that moment. They are a lost art now, sadly. I was sad about Sybil’s estrangement from her family, but as you learned more about the tragedy in the family it was not so surprising. I especially loved her letters to Harry. Do you think she made a difference in the lives of some of the people she wrote to?
