The Ballards are an incredibly closeknit family—did you have a favorite character among Martha and Ephraim’s brood? Was there a relationship between one of Martha’s children and their suitors that you were particularly cheering for?
I was especially rooting for their son, Cyrus. His inability to speak tenderly mirrors the restrictions and frustrations that his mother faced when her testimony is suppressed in court.
@Diane_Jones right? I was disappointed his love life didn’t work out.
I cheered for Cyrus and want to believe that he’ll unite with a loving mate in the future.
I was also hoping that Cyrus would find true love. Alas! I was also taken with Dolly Ballard, her independence and free spirit!
I also was rooting for Cyrus because he was unable to talk which hinder his ability to testify without assistance but I think he and his family saw a small ray of hope for his future.
I too am cheering for Cyrus. I love Martha’s understanding of each of her children, and her deep-seated love for the girls she lost. But Cyrus is challenged in a special way, and Martha’s determination to help him find the best life is heart-warming.
I too was rooting for Cyrus to find a mate. Martha was tuned into all her children.
Me too for Cyrus. I wish he could have found someone.
I did not have a favorite character, but loved the way they communicated and watched out for each other. I was amused at times by the relationships between Martha and several of her children. They seemed quite modern, like Martha waiting up for Jonathan, who was hoping to sneak back into the house without being confronted by her.
I was on Team Cyrus, I so wanted for him to find love and true companionship.
