I’m not sure that it was because she was so certain. I think it was more that she was so determined not to leave, she truly believed it was her property and she was going to stay, no matter what the law said.

For Mother Rita, the land isn’t just property. It’s sacred space tied to generations of survival and community. When something carries that level of meaning, it stops being a matter of paperwork. She somehow manages to retain faith that moral truth outweighs legal technicalities despite historical evidence of the legal system letting down her community. It’s remarkable determination.

I think she is a positive person. This is her families land and she also does not want to be evicted.

My exact thoughts! She clearly couldn’t think of any logical reason why it wasn’t her land.

I agree with Joanna that Mother Rita believed. After all, Happy Land had been created and succeeded against enormous obstacles due to people’s belief that they could do it. They had created a sacred space, and although the space was smaller, her space would not be taken away.
