Some of the same laws are still in effect today. Can you think of a recent time period when the law/s allowed the government control over individuals?

During COVID, the government restricted first amendment rights to assembly, travel, or operate businesses, ostensibly to protect public safety. Also, civil rights are often suspended in the name of national security.

It is disgustingly rampant right now, today! Locking up men, women, children without due process, doing whatever possible to remove one’s right to vote, kidnapping people off the streets and making them “disappear”. These are treacherous times for everyone.

Can I think of a recent period when the laws allowed the government control over individuals? This almost sounds like a joke with what is going on right now.

Yes, when I first read the question I was kind of stunned.

Just like Ruth’s, Stella’s, and the other’s health was jeopardized, women’s health is being jeopardized today.

What I don’t understand is how this disparity persists. More than half the population is female, yet somehow we’re seldom in positions where we influence policy. 70% of Congress is male, true, but more women than men vote for those people (91.3 million women to 82.6 million men in 2024, according to the League of Women Voters). I don’t get it…

Exactly! But men won’t vote for women leaders as we’ve seen in the past 2 election cycles. Yet other countries have had very successful women-led leadership regimes.

Kim.Kovacs, You are correct in the representation of women. There are only 26 women senators! No law is passed or changed without the Senate, and with only 1/4 female representation it is hard to have a female block of voting power. I am embarrassed to say I know of several women that do not vote and I am not sure if they did vote, they would vote for a woman. Sigh
