Sharing reviews to the forum for commenting

Hi everyone, one fairly commonly requested feature has been the ability to comment on reader reviews on bookbrowse.com. While that is possible to develop, it would likely require a decent amount of setup. Meanwhile, the forum already has most of what we would need in terms of moderation and edit abilities, if we gave people the option to automatically post their reviews to the forum for commenting.

I would love the group’s feedback on if that’s something you’re interested in and if you’d use it. Basically it would be an optional button when submitting reviews on BookBrowse, and then the review would automatically be pushed to the Recent Reads category (after it’s approved) for discussion, with a link back to the original review (the original review would also have a link to the comments).

What do you think of having the option to post reader reviews to the forum for commenting?

  • I think it’s a good idea and I’d use it.
  • I think it’s an interesting idea and I might comment but I probably wouldn’t use it for my reviews.
  • I think it’s complicated, it would be better to have it on the main site.
  • I’m not really interested in commenting on other reader’s reviews.

I’m not sure if this would be possible or not, but if a BookBrowse member wanted to comment on another BookBrowse member’s review, could they not just do so by beginning a comment string or topic question?

They definitely could but I think it’s less likely. The way BookBrowse is currently set up there’s also almost no way to see reviews outside of the specific books they’re about, so letting people share their reviews would also increase their visibility (but we could also update BookBrowse to incorporate the top reader reviews elsewhere).

Yeah, I see your point. Convenience really is important.
