Sasi tells Semiramis that he believes she loved Onnes, “But do you think that in our world, love can ever be a strength?” How would you answer him? Do any of the characters truly experience love, in your opinion?
I do think love can be strenght but feel its more a love of your community, your country, and doing what is necessary rather than love of a person.
I do think love is a strength in our world. When there is so much hate it does give me hope to love and care for others. Hate destroys love keeps us sane.
I definitely think love is a strength. For example, the love for our family gives us the strength to keep going to work every day in order to take care of our children and ourselves. I also think Semiramis showed love for Onnes by following him into war.
The characters in this novel may have “loved,” but ambition always seemed to take precedence to any attachment such as love. While strong feelings may have existed with genuine grief upon loss, the characters could not afford to but love first. In my opinion, this turns so much of the novel into tragedy.
I do believe love can be a superpower! But it needs to be a pure, honest true love, which sometimes meaning doing what is not the best for you. Too often people feel that love means forcing someone to do what they want.
I think several characters love others, but only as they can experience love. I think Onnes and Nunes love each other, but it is not always a healthy love but instead a love that wants them to keep the other person how they want that person to be instead of thinking of the other person. Of course, the position of the characters sometimes forces actions that are not in support of a loving relation.
True love of one’s fellow human beings, no matter how despicable they are, if they are not known to you, if they have wronged you is probably the most difficult, but purest love there is behind, if you are a Christian, love of God.
