Rita seems like a dream girlfriend, why isn’t she?
I think Rita is just molding herself to be what she think Frank needs, I don’t feel that we know much about Rita and neither does Frank.
Rita was more enamored with being an author’s girlfriend than she was with Frank. She might have made a fine research assistant but try as she might, she was never going to capture Frank’s heart, which was fully committed to Lucy.
She was perfect for someone else. Frank enjoyed talking with her, but never loved her as a partner in life. She thought she loved him, but it was more infatuation.
If Rita wasn’t such a cardboard cutout of a character, and if two people were in the relationship, why did Frank have no responsibility in helping the relationship mature and grow??
Rita might have been a fantasy dream girl but it’s not like Frank was anything more than someone only out for himself. Doesn’t his dishonesty all through his time with Rita play a significant role in how the relationship never had a chance. And he wasn’t always in Lucy’s orbit.
Rita didn’t seem like a dream girlfriend to me. She seemed like she was trying to be whoever she thought would be a good girlfriend for Frank. I don’t think she ever showed her true self whoever that was.
Rita is shaping herself to what she think Frank wants and she is just infatuated with him as an author.
I think thee author could have created the character Rita with more depth, less of a one dimensional girlfriend and it would have generated a more interesting dynamic between her and Frank and wouldn’t have made the happy ending so predictable.
In many was she was a dream girlfriend… Just not Frank’s dream girlfriend. She certainly had many positive attributes, but not what he needed or wanted.
