Read a book that was published before 1950.
I just re-read Emma by Jane Austen and still don’t like the title character! I picked it up to prep me for reading Catherine Cliff’s Miss Bates. I’d like to re-read some other Austen novels to see if it’s the mores of the time that irk me (what appears to me to be snobbishness) or if it truly is an Emma Woodhouse thing. Should be interesting!
Haha, I hear you! I’ve read pretty much everything Ms Austin wrote, and Emma is definitely my least favorite character.

I can’t believe I am admitting this, but I have never read a Sherlock Holmes book. Shock! Ok, I know the key points of the characters and even some of the plot points but only because they are in common everyday language. I settled in and read Hound of the Baskervilles. What a delight, the plot was engaging and characters interesting and there were enough surprises to keep me entertained. Is Holmes a know it all, yep, and I was here for it.

OMG, I can’t believe you’ve never read any! I had quite the thing for good ol’ Sherlock when I was a kid; I admired him greatly. (Him & Mr. Spock. I wanted to be coldly logical. I already had the “not liking people all that much” part down.) And that spilled over into Basil Rathbone, who I also adored. (Except during that short period when he had these weird little curls on the side of his head. That was just odd. I tried to find a picture but I think they were all purged because they were so bad.)
I know, I can’t believe it either! After I read it, I watched the B Cumberbatch episode-based Hound of the Baskervilles but an updated mystery. It was so good. I kind of want to see the curls of Basil Rathbone.
I was a fan of Spock but I never thought about the correlation to Holmes…well done!
