Read a book by an author who’s participated in a Q&A on the Community Forum.
I am reading The Reimagining of Thornwood House by Jaleigh Johnson. I have enjoyed reading the Q&A with the author as it is giving me insights to the book.
I had been reading a few terrific but heavy, troublesome books so I needed a light refreshing change. I am enjoying this cozy fantasy, and I love the idea of a house being a living being.

I just finished Isola by Allegra Goodman. I really enjoyed reading the questions and answers,
Isola is a beautifully written Historical Fiction book. It is about a young woman and her lover who are forced off a ship and left abandoned on a desolate Island in Canada in the 16th century.
It is based on a true story.

I finished two this week:
When We Were Brilliant by Lynn Cullen, who was here August 3-5. I knew it was about Marilyn Monroe (she is, after all, on the cover) but I didn’t realize that it was told from the standpoint of Eve Arnold, a photojournalist who had a longtime friendship and professional relationship with Marilyn. It was quite good, and while I don’t know that I like Marilyn any more than I ever did, it certainly helped me develop more sympathy for her.
I also completed The Irish Goodbye: Micro-Memoirs by Beth Ann Fennelly, who’s here this week. This is one that I heartily recommend, particularly if you’re looking for a shorter NF work to round out your challenge tasks. She sure packs in a lot of heart in this tiny book! It’s not often that I’ll want to immediately read an author’s other book, particularly if the formats are similar, but I really want to make time for her earlier collection of Micro-Memoirs, Heating & Cooling.
