At the age of 15, Pierre Moreau began his baking apprenticeship, because “Offering food, it seemed, held a kind of magical power to elevate people out of the ordinary and into the realm of contentment, even bliss.” In what ways does this play out in the book? Do you agree with the statement? Have you seen this “magical power” yourself?
I enjoy cooking and some of my happiest times are when I am having a dinner party or sharing food with others. Compliments of my cooking and baking make me feel rewarded.
I agree with you, I too enjoy cooking for my quests.
While I have never considered myself a great cook, I love having family and/or friends gather together around a meal and socializing. I think Pierre’s delicious food brought more than family together - it built neighborhood community. This plays out in the book as everyone wants this wonderful bakery to continue.
