Overall, what did you think of The Memory Library? (no spoilers, please!)

I enjoyed The Memory Library. While it was an easy read for me, I found the topics covered interesting and thoughtfully written. It would make a great book club read!

I found the story engaging. I liked the theme of family and friends. The idea of a book for each year in a child’s life struck me as touching - left me wishing I had done that as a mother. I could not really relate to this particular mother/daughter relationship though, so the end struck me as idealistic.

It was the sort of mother-daughter story that would be a perfect Hallmark movie. While a
bit predictable, a story laced with lost love, misunderstandings and happy endings. I will give this book to my own daughter.

I enjoyed the book, but it is ot a favorite. Ella seemed immature. She never learned that adults keep secrets from kids. How can you not speak to someone for 20 years and move to another country? I think she had doubts all along, but wanted to be right about her mother.

The Memory Library was a slow burn. I did not take to it at first. As the relationship between Ella and her mom, Sally unfolded memories of my relationship with my mother flashed before me. I thoroughly enjoy the community in England. The characters were believable, compassionate, unique and added to Sally’s story. Who would not like a library dedicated the them from dear and treasured friends? I recommend this book for book club. Much to discuss as it relates to today’s world.

I believe everyone could gain insights from reading this book. There are memorable passages that resonated, especially Prof. Walker’s description of why books are important to him. Also the protagonist’s description of parenthood is insightful and heartfelt.

It was an enjoyable book, but I would not put it in the top 10 best books of the year.

I enjoyed it, but what avid reader doesn’t enjoy a book about books. I was enthralled with the daughter for most of the book. I was happy to see her open up and become human. What a disservice her dad did to her and her mother.

Although my mother and I did not share my love of books, the mother/daughter dynamics here really spoke to me. Both characters have conversations in their heads, or on paper, rather than speaking to each other. So much left unsaid until it is almost too late.

I thought the idea for the story was creative, and I found it interesting to compare the books in the library to books I have read. I found the plot intriguing, but I thought the relationship between the mother and daughter to be a bit over the top. Because of that I didn’t find that part of the book particularly realistic. It was an ok read, but not one of my favorites.

I thought it was predictable but that was all right - I certainly felt for Sally and admired her ability to still love her daughter.

This book was not one of my favorites. I found it to be predictable and a bit trite. I knew going in that the mother-daughter relationship would in some way be resolved, but was not satisfied with the way in which it happened. I did like the idea of building a personal library for a loved one, as Ella’s mother did.
