I didn’t finish and was not liking. The writing was odd to me. Choppy, little flow. I did read 100 pages and just couldn’t connect. I knew the subject matter would not be light. It may have also been too personal as I had lived with alcoholism and drug addiction.

I really enjoyed it. The writing was good. The story sucked me in.

From the Introduction I knew it was going to be a good story even though I would probably not have been picked up the book in a book store. Happy that I read it.

At first I was confused and thought maybe the 2018 person was in physical therapy. However, once I got my bearings straight I was definitely caught up in Birdie/Elizabeth’s story. Given Epstein on the nightly news, it gave me a sense of how a pretty, young girl could get caught up in a bad way of life. Overall, I liked the book, enjoyed the fashion descriptions, liked that Aids and prejudices Bernice suffered both had a voice. I’m passing it on to a friend. It’s definitely a worthy read.

One of the most depressing and sad books I’ve ever read. I wonder why the author choose this as the premise?

I was surprised at how much I enjoyed the novel. I was really involved with the story, and I enjoyed the writing. I was more horrified than sad or depressed by it, and was glad to see her finally getting to a place of healing by the book’s end.

At this time I have 50 pages left to read so I do not know the ending but at the moment I have enjoyed reading how Birdie has dealt with the challenges of her life and surviving the competition of being a model.

I loved this book. I found the topic so timely. This book was a well written and absorbing cautionary tale on young women and how easily they can be manipulated and drawn into lives they are emotionally and developmentally ill prepared for. While they may look grown up in their teens, they are still children. I found Birdie’s story to be a common tale of abuse. We only need look to today’s headlines to see it portrayed in real life.

I wasn’t sure I was going to like it when I started. It seemed to just be another telling of Almost Famous except not as good. The bus scenes, the groupies, the exploitation of youth all mirrored that movie. But in the end I was vested in Birdie and I’m glad I saw the book till the end. But her story was very depressing

I loved this book and became immersed in the story immediately. I found the writing style so compelling and easy to read, even though the subject matter is not light fare. I have already recommended this book to several women. I was sorry when I finished the book - I could have kept reading…

I really enjoyed the book. I thought it was well written and kept me reading!

Parts of the book were extremely hard to witness., but I really liked the book. I was initially drawn to it hoping to get some insight into the world of modeling. It turned out to be so much more. I especially liked the long timespan of the book and how things changed over the decades. I also liked how the author showed the long lasting consequences of decisions made at various times in Birdie’s life.

I enjoyed the book. It kept me interested and I felt it was very descriptive. It drew me in from the beginning.

I enjoyed the book greatly as Birdie would be about my age - I was 12 in 1975. I had never read about Brooke Shields or any other models and what may have happened to them during this time period, so I was very interested and curious. Overall, it is in my opinion a “sad” story and not one that I feel I would recommend as enthusiastically as a thriller, mystery, or novel with a happier ending. That being said Ms. Rossi’s writing was engaging and particular. I would recommend it to someone who wants to know more about this topic/era.

I enjoyed it tremendously. I was an entertainment reporter in the late 80s - 90s. I don’t doubt moms would hand over their daughter if it meant fame and money.

I really liked this book. It was nostalgic for me to have some of the book set in the 70s and 80s when I was around the same age as Birdie. Of course, our life experiences were vastly different but that’s what made it interesting. I’ve always been intrigued by the lives of models and the rock star boyfriend, if he could be called that, also gave readers a peek at that life. Overall a very good book with great insight into the characters and their lives.

I enjoyed The Cover Girl and thought the writing seemed like a true memoir. It also conveyed the emotions of the teenage narrator.

I really liked it. I thought it was well written. It mixed so many personalities throughout the book.
