Olivia and Vincent ultimately publish a theory about the murders in their book. What did you think about the story they chose to tell? Were they justified in taking the route they did?
Yes, I think they were justified. They wanted a child molester exposed and at the same time wanted to imply that he was the murdered. They had no proof of the latter, but a reader would, I think, willingly accept their theory.
By framing it as a theory, it allowed them to tell the emotional truth, protect themselves legally, but acknowledge the uncertainty that surrounded what happened. Yes, I believe they were justified.
I think it was a good route take. Protected the innocent so to speak, and exposed the story that needed to be told.
Well we have all heard the saying and eye for an eye. I think they were justified in getting a molester sent away. Protecting the innocent comes to my mind and there were certainty a lot of innocent victims in this story. Legally they only came up with a theory the rest fell to the legal system.
I agree with Jill. I believe that Vincent revealed the truth to Olivia but am glad their secret was kept.
They offered a truth that fit the story and was believable. Whether they were morally right is another matter. They protected her mother’s crime, but that is understandable. Even the law allows that–you can’t be forced to implicate a spouse. I think they did what they could to bring justice by revealing the child molester and getting him off the streets. Plus evidence looks like he killed Poppy. It put the case to rest peacefully without implicating the mom. By all accounts, it looks like she has more than paid for her crime in leaving her child behind.
Nice use of the spoiler tag, @Susan_L!
It was their truth and they chose to protect their love/mother especially since the detective told Olivia they wouldn’t really pursue the charges. Honestly, I might’ve done the same thing if I was in that situation.
Family first! I can’t tell you how often I have heard that statement throughout my life. I think that always was in the back of Vincent’s mind and he was able to get Olivia on board with it. They protected those that needed to be protected, but still brought about justice. It was a super ending.
Yes. They wanted it come out about Stewart. And really there was no justification in revealing Lydia’s involvement in the deaths.
They told a story that got someone punished for their actions, not just with Danny, but with others and they protected someone they loved. In the end, that may be all that matters.
Yes, I believe they were justified in telling their story. It would probably have been well read by the Publishing Company’s legal department before it went to press. It succeeded in bringing Olivia and her father together again, which was important to Vincent.
Absolutely comfortable with the story they decided to tell. It was essentially a just conclusion that Vince & Olivia could live with. Sometimes, what may be legally correct is not justice.
