This is a very creative way to visually bring people’s attention to the variety of books that have been challenged over the years. It’s too bad more children’s books weren’t featured. As a former children’s librarian, I know only too well the incalculable number of challenged and banned books that would astound most people. The Carrot Seed by Ruth Kraus is one such book. Banned outright in certain school libraries because the main character showed “defiance for parental authority” as he continues to trust that his carrot would grow. The fact that books continue to be challenged is a healthy display of freedom of speech; but books actually being banned should remind us all of how precariously close we continue to be to the edge of all of our freedoms. I am particularly encouraged by the growing number of states that have made censorship of materials in school libraries illegal.
Hi Sunny, agreed! There’s a gameshow, The Floor - https://www.rottentomatoes.com/tv/the_floor and one of the categories was Banned Books - they brought up a fair number of children’s books!
Thanks for sharing. Just came home from my Banned Book club. We discussed Nineteen Eighty-Four. We had a great discussion!
