New 5 Under 35

The National Book Foundation has revealed their list of 5 authors under 35 whose debut novels “leave a lasting impression on the literary landscape.” I haven’t heard of any of these writers, but they’re ones to watch.

Megan Kamalei Kakimoto, author of Every Drop Is a Man’s Nightmare
Anika Jade Levy, author of Flat Earth
Carrie R. Moore, author of Make Your Way Home
Maggie Su, author of Blob
Stephanie Wambugu, author of Lonely Crowds

I think it’s kind of awesome that all five are female*

(*Seemingly - I haven’t looked them up to know how they identify).

I’m starting to get so far away from popular fiction that I don’t even recognize these. I think I’ve heard of Blob.

I’ve read reviews of the five books and have decided on Blob by Maggie Su as the one I’ll try to get my hands on. My local library only offers it thru Libby, no hard copies, so I’ll probably get the kindle version. It sounds the most intriguing and creative to me.

Would love to hear your report on Blob if you care to share when you’ve finished.

Once again I haven’t heard of any of the 5 mentioned.

Yes…very awesome they are all female.

I haven’t heard of any of them either.

I guess I’m not too surprised that no one has heard of these authors. These are their debut books and I imagine it’s hard for new authors to get much recognition. The only one of the five BookBrowse has reviewed is Carrie Moore’s novel.

If I get time, I’d like to do a little research & see what’s become of past “5 Under 35” writers. I don’t know if they generally go on to bigger and better things or not, but now I’m curious.
