National Book Award Winners

Winners are up! You can see them all here: Major Book Awards

And watch the ceremony here if you didn’t catch it last night: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZxKMIbjd39s

I didn’t watch all of it, but did see the speeches from Patricia Smith, Omar El Akkad, and Rabih Alameddine, which were all fantastic. I was sort of expecting The Antidote or A Guardian and a Thief to take the prize for fiction, but am happy for Alameddine to win - I haven’t read Raja the Gullible but love his work in general. What did everyone else think?

I didn’t watch it, so thanks for posting! I read that there were several impassioned speeches, and I’m really looking forward to checking them out.

Like you, I was expecting The Antidote or A Guardian and a Thief to win. I haven’t read any of Alameddine’s books, but Raja is next on my list.

Fun fact: The True True Story of Raja the Gullible (and His Mother) (full title) was apparently reviewed for Booklist, positively, by Poornima Apte, who used to review and edit for BookBrowse: Book Marks reviews of The True True Story of Raja the Gullible (and His Mother) by Rabih Alameddine Book Marks

Also, just dropping the link for the BB page for One Day, Everyone Will Have Always Been Against This, which Norah reviewed: One Day, Everyone Will Have Always Been Against This by Omar El Akkad: Summary and Reviews
