Many of the characters' actions are motivated by the desire to protect or support their families. Mimi, Daniel, and many of the women who seek abortions at the clinic are driven by this desire. Does this change how you view their actions?

I believe that the desire to make life easier for your family is noble and unselfish. I did not view their actions harshly because they did not seem to judge the women who came for abortions.

It didn’t change my view, because I believe the every woman has the right to decide whether she should have an abortion, regardless of the circumstances.

No it was the logical choice. Family should always come first even if you are taking a risk.

The reasons why the characters chose their paths didn’t change the way I felt about them–they did what they did to survive. And as Patricia_H stated, what a woman does with her body is her decision, no one else’s.

I didn’t view them negatively for making their decisions. They did what they felt they had to do!

The world is not black and white. It’s countless shades of gray, and it was a desperate time for many people. It was ten years into the Great Depression . . . a long, long time. And people were exhausted and had exhausted any means they may have had earlier. So their actions must be viewed through that lens, and it is really a timeless question, isn’t it? Do you sacrifice the well-being of the children you already have in order to bring another child into your family? Or do you make the painful decision to terminate a pregnancy in order to be able to take care of the family you have already established? No one has the right to judge another person for how they balance the various interests and considerations, and what choice they ultimately make. Which is why healthcare IS political, & women’s reproductive healthcare must be a priority in this country and readily available for all without moral judgment.

Well said, Patricia. I whole hearty agree. I raised my two daughters to feel the same. I stand for Roe vs Wade and will continue to do so as long as I live.

The reason why each woman made the decision they made did not change the way I viewed them. However. When making a decision, there are other people to consider.

I believe every woman should have the choice to make their own decisions.

The motivations for any woman can be different but no matter why, a safe abortion should be available to all. Yes, it was necessary to characterize the women as needing to put their already family first, especially considering the economic times.

My body, my right to choose. And if states start mandating even more extreme abortion restrictions, then they must “man up” and mandate and enforce strict and generous paternity support.

I am in support of women having the rights for their ow n body, so I would have been comfortable even if the characters decisions had not driven by the desire to support or protect their families. In truth, when a woman makes such a difficult decision there are always reasons. It is a crisis. I don’t think the reason makes it easier, it is still a difficult decision, and I support that it is an individual decision and should not be dictated by others.
