I would assume that Madame Moreau was relieved that she no longer had to hide the fact that there was a ghost living in the basement. Once Edie discovers the true status of their financial distress she is eager to help in some way and becomes closer to Madame after she tells their family story. She is also anxious for Manu to realize his dreams and talents in becoming a baker and having this bakery for his future. I think Edie relates to the loss of Madame’s mother and Manu’s mother just as she has lost her own mother.

I think Madame Moreau can tell that Edie is sincerely concerned about helping with the survival of the bakery. She sees that Edie listens and never makes fun of what has been happening in the basement. I also think that both she and Manu can tell that Edie likes and respects Manu and that she will support him in his role of eventually taking over the bakery. Edie also brings together the friends & associates of Madame Moreau and the bakery, in support.

Madame Moreau can tell Edie has no alternative agenda. Edie wants to help and she’s willing to stick her neck out.

At first, she is trying to hide the basement secrets. Once Edie finds out the true story, she has the freedom to share with her and warm up to Edie.
