June covered up the death of a man she cherished, whereas Eva covered up the death of a man who was dangerous. Do you think either was more justified in her action?
I think Eva’s actions were justified, she killed a man who was going to kill her friend, and then probably her as well. If they had gone to the police, his influential family would have sided with him. There was no choice.
June hid the death of the man she loved, because she had nowhere to go, and no way to support herself without him. I can understand her actions, but not really condone them.
I think Eva’s actions were more justified than June’s. This was an act of self defense. She and Louise might have been killed by this man.
June, on the other hand was being somewhat selfish. She had no money and no place to go.
I think both are situations that you can’t really evaluate. Nobody can know what goes through the mind of someone when they take action. Our opinions don’t matter.
Eva’s was justified; I found the whole storline with June a bit perplexing.
I feel Eva’s action was definitely justified, as it was a coverup to protect Louise and herself from a being prosecuted for the death of a prominent citizen. Although June’s action was reactionary, it was wrong, and too late to rectify it.
Eva acted out of self-defense and defense of another. If she hadn’t killed, she and Louise would likely have been killed. In that time and place, women had few rights and they would not have been believed. They would have been punished when they were not the guilty parties, so her actions were motivated by desperation and lack of options for survival.
June simply acted in a rash, illogical, and selfish manner. She didn’t want to be thrown out of Elwood’s home, so was motivated by self-interest. She dishonored Elwood, failing to summon the authorities and ensure that his remains were handled with respect and dignity. She was motivated by a sense of entitlement and being owed a future, so it was very difficult to have sympathy for her.
Eva was absolutely justified in her actions. She was saving her friend and probably herself from being killed. I would say it was self defense. June was just trying to buy herself more time. She was upset by the thought of losing everything - house, income - after she had lost the man she cherished.
I think that Eva’s actions were justified. Jane covered up Elwood’s death for her own gain - she wanted to continue writing in his name and she didn’t have the desire to find a new home
