I can’t find anything on this topic that confused me about The Bluest Eye. There is a conversation between two girls about pretending, or maybe believing that Percola has the bluest eyes. Is this a real conversation? Between what two people. Or is it only in someone’s imagination. or is it only in Morrison’s mind? Thanks for your help. Janet Ackenehil Thomas

Hi @Janet_Thomas - My take is that Percola snapped, and that this is a conversation she’s having with an imaginary friend.
I took it to be that Percola is hearing a voice and speaking to that voice. Breaks my heart. She never had anyone who loved or cared for her so in her mental illness, which I feel is a direct result of her isolation, invents the voice/friend in her mind.
I think it can be interpreted as a conversation she’s having with her imaginary friend. It’s devastating and shows how far gone her mental illness is.
