Hugo Awards finalists announced

There are a ton of categories, so I won’t reproduce everything here. Nominees for the best novel are:

  • A Drop of Corruption by Robert Jackson Bennett (Del Rey; Hodderscape)
  • Death of the Author by Nnedi Okorafor (William Morrow; Gollancz)
  • Shroud by Adrian Tchaikovsky (Tor UK; Orbit US)
  • The Everlasting by Alix E. Harrow (Tor US; Tor UK)
  • The Incandescent by Emily Tesh (Tor US; Orbit UK)
  • The Raven Scholar by Antonia Hodgson (Orbit US; Hodderscape)

I’ve only read the first one (and it was very good!). I have read other novels by Tchaikovsky, although not anything lately. More books for the TBR!

I read Death of the Author and quite enjoyed it. It was a different sort of book (speculative???) than I normally read.

I listened to the audiobook of The Raven Scholar and I was thoroughly entertained!

Kim, I looked up the Hugo Awards and realize why I am not familiar with any of these titles - science fiction and fantasy genre awards, not in my ‘wheelhouse.’ Altho, once in a while it is impossible to not hear of a book and I have read and enjoyed Weir’s Project Hail Mary and Klara and the Sun by Ishiguro - would you say those are science fiction?

Yes, @Connie_K, those are indeed science fiction. Project Hail Mary was actually nominated for the Hugo the year the book came out.

It’s an incredibly broad category, but if you want recommendations I’m sure there are several of us that would love to add to your TBR.

@Connie_K did you know there is a movie coming for Klara and the Sun? I’m sure everyone knows by now that there is a movie adaptation out now of Project Hail Mary.

I didn’t know that, @Anne_Glasgow! I can see Klara and the Sun making a really good flick. I’ll have to keep an eye out for it.

@Anne_Glasgow I saw Project Hail Mary and Whalefall is scheduled for October! Thanks for heads up on Klara and the Sun - should make a good flic.
