How does the novel explore the value of lost or forgotten art? Should all art be preserved and shared?
Forgotten art has a story to tell, as this violin did. YES, all art should be preserved, shared, and valued.
I appreciate artists and how they beautify our lives. I can’t imagine life without books, music, sculptures etc. At the same time, creativity and the resulting art is very personal and the decision to share it is up to the creator.
This question makes me think of all of the Art that was stolen during World War II, and how important it was to find it and get it back into the world for all people to enjoy. The world without Art, Music, and Books, would certainly be a bleaker world. Often times one does not realize the value of something until it is gone.
I found this idea in the story to be interesting, the life of the violin. And, that one person or family did not keep the violin forever. Others had the chance to enjoy and appreciate the object and its sound. Should art be preserved and shared….yes as, just like this violin, the art tells a story of places, people and times.
Art carries memory and when art is lost, something human is lost with it. They aren’t just relics— they are vessels of identity and connection.
Should all art be preserved and shared? Yes and no. Some art is deeply personal. Not all forgotten art is meant for public revival.
I think all art should be shared. There are rich people who buy art just to store it away and feel good about owning it. I think artists paint for their art to be shared with everyone - not just wealthy people.
I suspect it would be impossible to save ALL art – and who would decide what that would be and where to be saved? Art is so essentially subjective, but the violin in this story was lucky to become part of Garbielle’s world so that it could be preserved through her knowledge and then shared with others who also appreciated how special it was.
We found my old violins in the house that had belonged to my late husband’s grandfather. His grandfather had played the violins for the Czar in Russia. Although they hadn’t been stored correctly and there was damage, we found out these were valuable as far as history goes. I agree that forgotten art and music can important in History.
Yes! All art should be preserved and passed down for generations. The violin was around for many years and had a story to tell.
