How does the inclusion of clairvoyance in the novel influence the way it explores its historical themes?
The clarivoyance inclusion certainly makes the story more interesting. It makes one wonder if such a talent really exists.
It’s a fascinating subject and an interesting twist on World War II. I certainly never learned in school that Hitler was obsessed with the occult, but along with reading The Tapestry of Time I’ve been researching this aspect of World War II and finding some very surprising information. Again, I am learning more about that period in history and thoroughly enjoying expanding my knowledge about that time.
I think that including clairvoyance gives us a degree of insight into multiple perspectives. Ivy’s ability to know the thoughts of her nemesis in the Nazi party gave us an unsettling glimpse into how he saw certain situations.
It was interesting to me that clairvoyance was presented as something fairly subtle and hard to recognize and develop, rather than as a straightforward magical ability. It made this aspect of the novel more believable than it might otherwise have been.
Clairvoyance is a fascinating topic and joining it with its use as a tool of the resistance was very interesting. Inheriting such a tool is not a new idea, I.e. Harry Potter series) but used well by the author. It gives the family a mystical atmosphere
