The U.S. House Committee on Education and the Workforce has moved ahead with House Resolution 7661, a bill that would prohibit federal education funds from being used in public school classrooms and school libraries alleged to have “sexually oriented materials” in their collections.
This…when schools and school libraries in many states are already struggling to dodge the complaints and restrictions thrown at them willy-nilly. Sad news.
Totally agree! Saddened and disgusted that a certain political party in our Congress only embraces the 1st amendment when it applies to them. Another ploy to destroy public education in favor of private education paid for by the government through vouchers, but that only the privileged can access. A few overzealous wing nuts in a community will be able to destroy education for all. The marginalized, whether by income, race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation, etc., will be standing on the outside. A further stripping of the separation of church and state and our constitutional rights. Honestly, I am a political moderate but when it comes to book banning and public education, I am a zealot. I am writing my congressman for whatever good it will do.
