Have you read any of Evie Woods’ other novels, and if so, how do they compare to The Mysterious Bakery on Rue de Paris?
I have not read any others, but since this book is a republished old book of Woods, maybe her more recent books are better. I would love to know if others have read some of her books and if they liked them better than this one.
I feel the same. I have not read any of her other books but am curious as to what other readers think of them.
Yes, I’ve read the Story Collector which I also received from BookBrowse to review, which I did. Again, it is a light book and like Edith, the heroine has taken off from Logan in Boston somewhat drunk and landed in Ireland. She is recently divorced and wants to get away and find herself so the opening premise is the same. Woods does do a dual story between different time periods which is easy to follow and there are two women whose lives are changed in the same Irish location. I liked it enough and this one, that I’m going to read The Lost Bookshop, too
Katherine I agree with you. I too like the Story Collector, a nice read.
This was my first Evie woods novel. I enjoyed it much more than I thought I would. I don’t usually like ghost stories, but this one had just the right amount of belief and skepticism for me.
I haven’t read other books, but would love to.
We’ve had discussions of The Story Collector and The Lost Bookshop here at BookBrowse. They’re similar in a lot of ways (young woman on her own, a bit of romance, a bit of magic/mystery, some historical fiction thrown in). I’ve enjoyed all three, but I think this one was the most shamelessly romantic and was consequently my favorite. It was totally predictable, but I felt like it was the feel-good book I really needed right now.
I loved the Bookshop, liked the Story Collector, and this one was just fine for me. I’m just not much of a foodie, and the bakery setting vs. a bookstore setting just didn’t hit me the same. Maybe because also it seemed so strange for this older twenty something year old to not have started her life yet? I gradually understood why as the story of her parents, especially her mother played out, but it took a long time to get there.
I haven’t but I’m going back to read her previous novels.
