Have you read any of Dolen Perkins-Valdez’s other novels, and if so, how do they compare to Happy Land?

I think read Take My Hand some years ago. Themes about Black injustice seem to be a major theme.

I have not read any of her other books but I enjoyed this book so much that I plan to. This is one of the many reasons I like BookBrowse, I have been introduced to many new authors, new to me!

I hadn’t known of Dolen Perkins-Valdez before reading Happy Land, but I am so dazzled by it that I’m already making plans to read her other works.

I read Wench a long time ago and can’t remember details, but it was very intense. There was a lot of injustice in that story too.

This was the first book I ready by this author. I plan on reading her other novels since I really enjoyed this one.

I read her novel, Take My Hand, a few years ago. I must admit I liked that one better than this one. It focused on the forced sterilization of young Black women in Alabama mid-20th century. Both novels focus on societal wrongs done to Black people.

no, I plan to read more of her books.

Me, too. I really enjoyed this one.

I hadn’t read any of her previous works. I’ve been wanting to read this one, so I was psyched when BookBrowse offered it. I’m interested in reading more of her other work now.

I have not read any of her books, but I definitely want to read more of her works.

This is the first of her novels I’ve read and I’ve enjoyed it a lot, so I will probably check out her other books too.

No, I have not but they are on my TBR list after reading this one.

I have not read any of the author’s other works.

I have not read any of the other books. After reading this one, I want to read more by this author.

I read Wench many years ago, but cannot remember much about it, if I am thinking of the correct book, other than it dealt with an enslaved woman who served as her owner’s concubine and traveled to non-slavery states with him, etc. and the effects on her.

I agree completely, Paula!

I read Take My Hand when it was first published and loved it so much that I decided I will read anything she writes. Thus, I was eager to read Happy Land and, like Take My Hand, it did not disappoint. She is immensely talented and I am a fan. I will continue reading her work.
