Have you ever read a book that inspired a non-literary passion or hobby? If so, tell us more (what was it, are you still pursuing it, etc.).
Have been thinking about this question for the past week since I stumbled on it (almost a year later than posted). I read quite a few books about hobbies that I wish I had the skill to pursue
, like mountain climbing and marathon running but it took me awhile to identify a hobby-inspired by a book. The closest thing I could think of is that I often check out and/or try recipes of foods mentioned in books.
South, Ernest Shackleton. LeD me to buy a small sailboat (a sunfish) and learn to sail on the Intercoastal Waterway near Beaufort. When a shrimper caught a tiger shark (with 45 young inside her) that was longer than my boat, i sold It and started fishing instead.
Vagabonding in Europe, Ed Buryn inspired me to hotchhike to n Europe at 19. Alaska, by James Michener led me to move my family to Kodiak. Readibg has almost always gotten me in trouble.
The only book that comes to my mind now is THE LIES THEY TOLD by Ellen Marie Wiseman. Reading the trauma that immigrants faced inspired me to research on Ancestry.com. I wanted to know if any of my ancestors were sent to Ellis Island. Currently I have not found any.
