I know not everyone here is in the USA, but for those who are, I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving! If you care to share, I’d love to know how you spent the day/weekend.
It’s just my husband and I, and we decided to find a nice Thanksgiving dinner somewhere. Unfortunately, I waited too long to make reservations at a really swanky restaurant. We were initially disappointed that the only place that still had availability was a local brewpub (they had a buffet). It ended up being really nice though, and the two of us enjoyed it tremendously.
And it beat the heck out of our usual tradition (my husband destroying the kitchen and finally getting dinner on the table at around 8:00 PM - considerably later than our normal 5:00-5:30 dinner time).
Haha @kim.kovacs. Glad your pub experience worked out.
We were with kids, grandkids, and great grandkids for the traditional offerings.
This year we ordered the Thanksgiving Dinner from an award winning French restaurant in
Madison. It was a treat having someone else do the cooking while we enjoyed the comfort of home
eating in our dining room.
Today I am sitting by the fireplace reading
Creation Lake by Rachel Kushner.
A perfect holiday!
I started the day with my Thanksgiving 5K, The Turkey Trot, well over 1000 people. It used to be called Turkey’s on the Run! I woke up thinking do I really want to do this? But I did and so pleased that I did. Dinner was myself and my oldest son. A text from my youngest. It was a very nice delightful day. Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. My only granddaughter will be with me for Christmas, her two week Christmas break!
@Paula_Walters congrats on the 5K! Perfect way to start the holiday.
@Gloria_Kelly that sounds incredible!
A quiet holiday with Hubby and the critters. Neither of us like turkey but we both enjoy cooking so we do a celebration of side dishes. It is basically a meatless meal of all our favorite side dishes. (We enjoy it so much we often have “sides night” throughout the year.). Afterwards we settled in for a re-watch of several episodes of Foyle’s War. Perfect day.
I spent Thanksgiving and am spending this weekend with my parents, siblings, and our families - 9 of us in all so a full house!
My husband and I enjoyed a quiet day at home and dinner in the evening. Kids and grandkids at in-laws.
We care for our youngest grandchild (5 months), so spend most of our day away from home. Kept meal simple, so no elaborate kitchen prep. Bought already prepped smoked turkey from local establishment just had to be heated. Macy parade, football, music, reading, and great conversation with spouse. It was heaven! Spent Black Friday eating prime rib with my father at his assisted living facility.
We spent the afternoon with our neighbors and BFFs. We decided on a menu that included some Indigenous dishes from our area (Pacific NW) - cedar planked grilled salmon, wild rice, corn and blueberry salad, and cornbread. It was wonderful. Then we watched Elf to get into the Christmas spirit. It was the very first time for me and my husband and we loved it!
That sounds really yummy, @Evonne_Benedict! I might have to reproduce that menu sometime. (I’m also in the PNW - in the Portland area).
I went to my daughter’s house. Two of my grandsons and the younger grandson’s fiance were there. Also, a long-time family friend joined us. She has celebrated Thanksgiving with us for many years.
Here’s the basic recipe! I did use frozen corn Corn, Blueberry and Wild Rice Salad | First Nations Development Institute
Thank you so much, @Evonne_Benedict! I’ve added it to my recipe app.
Great option of watching Foyle’s War! Sides are my favorite part of the meal!
